Overview

Welcome to the Climate Change Management & Economics Postgraduate Study Programs offered via the Department of Environmental Sciences (ES) at the Albert Schweitzer School ofManagement (ASM) in Cambridge Corporate University.

==================================================

MSc Program in Climate Change Management & Economics (MSc-CCE)  minimum 18 months

PhD Program in Climate Change Management & Economics (PhD-CCE)  minimum 36 months

=================================================

The programs on Climate Change and Economics are designed to provide environmental scientists, economists, urban developers, and policymakers with a factual and conceptual understanding of air quality and climate change in relation to economic impacts and the burden of disease. Although climate change is considered one of the prominent challenges currently facing the world, there is intense debate on how much it costs humanity and the best strategies to abate future climate challenges. However, it is critical to consider the geographical context when tackling climate change issues and its impact on economics and policymaking as each mitigation or adaptation strategy has its advantages and disadvantages when applied.

The relation between air quality, climate change, and societies is highly complex due to their adverse impacts on human health, political, social, and economic aspects. Hence, the ability to evaluate the financial liabilities and economic burden of disease in addition to losses in materials and welfare is highly demanded. Through the study of these modules, learners will gain in-depth knowledge of several economic models to evaluate the monetary losses due to climate change. Hence, economics can help us understand what is needed to be done and the roles of global institutions such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to set international targets for carbon emissions.

The intensive courses in the program aim at:

• Providing postgraduate students, environmentalists, professionals, economists, and policymakers with technical interests to obtain a fundamental and profound knowledge to understand key components of climate change and its potential human health and economic impacts.

• Identify significant air pollutants and global environmental changes.

• Get familiar with the state-of-the-art economic models for the evaluation of air pollution health impact and burden of disease.

Who developed this program?

The Climate Change Management & Economics Postgraduate Study Programs was developed and updated by talented faculty and thought-leaders at the Department of EnvironmentalSciences (ES) at the Albert Schweitzer School of Management (ASSM) in Cambridge CorporateUniversity under the supervision of Prof.Dr. Rima J. Isaifan, the Program Director . Each module was created by CCU scholars, researchers, and corporate teams, ensuring that a range of scientific and economic perspectives is integrated into the course material.

About the Program Director

Dr. Rima J. Isaifan is the Associate Professor of Environmental Sciences at Cambridge CorporateUniversity, she received her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Ottawa in Canada in2014.She has more than 40 peer-reviewed published articles. She is experienced in heterogeneous catalysis with nano materials for air pollution control. Her current research focuses on the characterization of air pollutants, their source apportionment and the estimation of health impact and burden of disease for long and short term exposure to air pollution. She holds several certificates in Climate Change policy, finance, mitigation and planning from The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)and The United Nations Habitat for a Better Urban Future. She has recently received her professional certificate from Harvard University in the Health Effects of Climate Change. In addition, She is the Head of Journals and Academic Publishing at (HBKUP) Press and a joint faculty with The College of Science &Engineering at HBKU. She is also a member of the Environmental Health Task Force at the Ministry ofPublic Health in Qatar.
