The Degree of Swiss Higher Diploma in Hospitality Management (SHDHM) introduces students to the main topics and subjects in the industry. It helps them build a solid foundation of the hospitality management industry and prepares them to occupy leading positions within the hospitality industry. Students will be able to complete the Diploma program in 9 (nine) months, including the program project. The program consists of 5 Modules, each values 15 academic credits, and could be calculated against completing the degree of the Swiss Master of HospitalityManagement SMHM via the Transfer Credits (TC) program at the University.

Program Structure

The Swiss Higher Diploma Program with a major in Hospitality Management (SHDHM) consists of5 modules representing the program's course track; each Module lasts for 6 weeks and values 15 academic credits. This includes the Foundation Module (SHDHM-FM410), which covers, among other subjects, the Academic and Technical Writing (ATW) course offered under the supervision of the Yvon Pfeifer Writing(YWC) at the University

  • The SHDHM Course Track lasts for (30 weeks).
  • The SHDHM Thesis/Project lasts for (6 weeks).
  • The SHDHM Program can be completed in an average of (9 months).

Introduction and Orientation

This two-week introduction is an essential and compulsory part of the SMHM Program at CCU and prepares the participants for the program's very different environment and structure. It does not award any academic credits, but it provides :

• An introduction to the program and the faculty.

• Advice and practice in accessing and using the program tools and computer lab.

• Guidance on study skills and on preparing for this particular program.

• Guidance on the case study model and the psychology track.

• Practicing the CCU innovation system, idea generator workshops, and creative thinking lab.

• Individual psychology and personality analysis interviews.

• Introduction to the CCU corporate model of education.

During the two weeks, the program committee works very closely with the students to gain a deep understanding of the participants' mental map, creative thinking skills, knowledge, and information connected to the program structure and subjects.

Module 1:

HOTEL MANAGEMENT

Students learn the nature and significance of international tourism in general and the hotel business in particular. Emphasis is placed on the particularities of hotel operations and development and its economic aspects.

Learning Objective:

To provide students with general knowledge of hotel operations and the foundational knowledge to successfully manage a profitable hotel operation.

Module 2:

ROOMS DIVISION MANAGEMENT

Module 4:

MANAGING PERFORMANCE (the PBO SYSTEM)

Students learn an organizational design facilitating practical application in management techniques of training, coaching, and supervising. This course is designed for department managers and supervisors.

Learning Objective:

To give students the knowledge to develop an understanding of how to overcome performance deficiencies by analyzing training needs to create appropriate training and coaching programs; improve the ability to transfer knowledge and practical skills to subordinates to increase efficiency and maintain predetermined standards.

Students learn an organizational design facilitating practical application in management techniques of training, coaching, and supervising. This course is designed for department managers and supervisors.

Learning Objective:

DIPLOMA Project DP (6 weeks)
The DP is an essential part and requirement of the program and offers the students the opportunity to be engaged in real-life hospitality management practice. Students practice the basics and topics they acquired during their term of study. For students who studied at the CCU campus inSwitzerland, the School of Hospitality Management will make the required arrangements to place them via the CCU internship Program inside Swiss Hotels and Resorts to complete the DP.


Students who complete their study online or via one of CCU International Campus worldwide should refer to their program director to define the model required to complete the 6 weeks DP.

DIPLOMA Project DP (6 weeks)
The DP is an essential part and requirement of the program and offers the students the opportunity to be engaged in real-life hospitality management practice. Students practice the basics and topics they acquired during their term of study. For students who studied at the CCU campus inSwitzerland, the School of Hospitality Management will make the required arrangements to place them via the CCU internship Program inside Swiss Hotels and Resorts to complete the DP.
